Does Klout Your Score really represent your social influence? How does it matter?

Klout is the Standard for Influence. Join Klout to discover your influence and compare with others you may know.”

Does KLOUT really take into account the social activities of LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Google+? – ALL OF THESE?

What does it all account for when it comes to your brand or your business growth?

A question put to the panel on Linkedin by Kumar Gauraw

My answer was simple “I think it relies heavily on your Twitter activity.”

Kumar replied with …

“You are so absolutely right.”

‘I wasn’t using Twitter much and I never got a score beyond 50 no matter how active I got on Facebook or LinkedIn. But as soon as I went on Twitter, it shot up like a rocket and now I hover around 60.”

It is always good to hear the opinions of others.  And in answer to the other questions Kumar asked.

I have noticed, in the weeks I have less Twitter activity my score starts to slide. And that the businesses with high Twitter activity also have high Klout scores. So whether Klout is a true representation of your companies reach is debatable. I would like to think so but I am sceptical : )

I personally like Twitter for B2B but would love to know (Like many, I suspect) which Social platform prompts, an effective call to action.

Is it possible to improve your brand recognition on Twitter? I think so. But again mainly amongst the business community.

Does Klout scores matter? I doubt it. Maybe as a rough personal guide.

It is always good to receive feedback.

Babette Ten Haken -Business and revenue building processes and strategies had this to say …

“Apparently it matters when associations are choosing which keynote speakers to hire. Klout is confusing. I certainly wouldn’t focus the sum total of your social media strategy on your Klout score. Sometimes it just “happens.”

I personally liked the reply of James Slifierz - Market Research Assistant at Humber College.

“I would look at Klout (and any other tool that measures social influence) as sort of being the ‘Alexa‘ of social influence ratings. It’s rarely accurate but more often than not it gives you a good ‘ballpark range’.”

And if you would like to improve your Klout score ..

1. Identify highly influential people within your industry.
2. Listen to what they are talking about.
3. Answer questions and provide commentary on what your industry leaders and others are posting.
4. Post content in line with the topics they are talking about.

These 4 steps will help increase your Klout Score as you participate in public conversations with individuals who are already influential and on topics your potential customers and others care about.

Thank you : )

Connect Cumbria Gets Social

What’s your favorite way of using Google +?

People still think of Google+ as a social network, but I find it has far more functionality than just circles: social search results, hangouts, no limits to posts (making it almost a substitute for a blog).

What’s your favorite way of using Google+ that others might not be aware of? What has it done for your business? – Read More

3 Reasons Why Small Businesses Should Consider Social Media

Word of mouth is the most powerful force of discovery, and social media is nothing more than word of mouth amplified.

Engage with a larger audience – As a business owner you can be guaranteed a large portion of your customers – and potential customers – are likely to spend a lot of time on social sites. Here is an opportunity for you to engage with a large audience and present the ‘human’ side of your business.

You don’t have to be big to be noticed – Most areas of social media require the investment of time and not money, making it a level playing field to be noticed.
